The proposed project involves upgrading 26 km of the highway, including works to re-route the highway to completely bypass Gympie. Gympie residents are sure to be excited by the completion of the project, set to enjoy the many benefits including improved resilience from flooding and less traffic through the main township, with approximately 50% less trucks.
This is a great opportunity for businesses in the Gympie region, such as service providers, labour-hire, equipment and plant hire, catering providers, accommodation and sub-contractors, who have been encouraged to register their interest on the project site.
This four-lane bypass of Gympie is the final link in the 62km long upgrade to the Bruce Highway between Cooroy and Curra. It connects the existing Bruce Highway at Curra (north of Gympie) to the northern end of Section C (at Woondum).
The project is expected to begin construction mid 2020 and be completed in mid 2025, weather permitting.
