A tender process is currently underway for a $30 million project consisting of road works at an intersection in North Brisbane.
The Department of Main Roads and Transport have released the tender process for the $30 million roads project to construct Brisbane’s first ever diverging diamond interchange at Strathpine.
Other cities in Australia have few or many of these lifesaving intersections, improving the flow of traffic and ensuring safer roads.
With the tender process currently being completed, first stage works on the interchange upgrade are predicted to begin later this year and major construction to commence early next year.
The project is estimated to create approximately 65 jobs in construction within the state.
The diamond diverging interchange is located at the Gympie Arterial Road and Strathpine Road intersection, around 16 km north of Brisbane.
This innovative interchange design will bring together Hoyland Street, Strathpine Road and the Gympie Arterial Road.
By utilising a diverging diamond design, the traffic will be pushed to the other side of the road – therefore, eliminating the need to cross the path of oncoming cars.
The interchange project at Strathpine is funded equally by both the Australian and Queensland Governments to the cost of $30 million.
